What is wrong

On certain trucks, the Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) for rear drive axles exceeds the load rating of the wheel hubs. This could cause the hubs to fail prematurely. If this happens, a wheel could separate from the truck.

Why it matters

A wheel separation could increase the risk of a crash. A wheel that detaches from a vehicle could also create a hazard for other drivers and nearby people.

What the dealer will do

Volvo will notify owners by mail and provide them with a new compliance label that has a lower GAWR.

What is wrong

On certain trucks built with a Cummins X15 or ISX15 engine equipped with nylon fuel lines and a banjo bolt on the fuel pump, a blockage in the fuel cooling system may cause a fuel line to burst. This could result in a significant fuel leak onto the roadway, which would create a road hazard for other motorists. Additionally, this condition could also cause an engine stall without warning, without the ability to restart the engine. Both of these conditions may increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.

What the dealer will do

Cummins-authorized dealers will replace the affected nylon line with a steel line.

What is wrong

On certain vehicles equipped with an electronic air dryer, the operating parameters may have been set incorrectly. This could allow condensation into the air brake system, potentially affecting brake system function in cold weather conditions and increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.

Dealers will reprogram the vehicle control unit.

What is wrong

On certain vehicles, the front hubs do not support the gross axle weight rating of the front axle. Specifically, 5,987 Kg (13,200 lbs.) rated front hubs were used on trucks requiring a 6,622 Kg (14,600 lbs.) rated front axle. If the axle load exceeds the maximum weight capacity of the hub, there is an increased risk of hub and bearing failure, which could cause a complete separation of the wheel(s) and a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.

What the dealer will do

Dealers will replace the front hub assemblies with hub assemblies rated for 6,622 Kg (14,600 lbs). Note: If damage occurs due to overloading, the ABS Malfunction light may illuminate as the distance between the ABS tone ring and the sensor increases (i.e. sensor loses contact with the tone ring).

What is wrong

On certain vehicles, the Engine Control Module (ECM) may develop an internal electrical short circuit that could blow a fuse in the ECM's electrical supply circuit. This could cause the engine to stall without warning and prevent the vehicle from being restarted. Engine stalling would result in lost propulsion which, in conjunction with traffic and road conditions, and the driver's reactions, could increase the risk of a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury.

What the dealer will do

Dealers will replace the ECM.

Steering

What is wrong

On certain vehicles manufactured with a 2-piece steering shaft, the lower or upper steering shaft may disconnect from the coupler. Separation would result in complete loss of steering, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.

What the dealer will do

As an interim measure, dealers will drill a hole through the steering shaft and install a roll pin. When parts become available, dealers will replace the 2-piece steering shaft with a one piece shaft. Note: This recall supersedes recall 2015-561. Vehicles repaired under the previous recall will require re-inspection and potential repair.
