What is wrong

On certain vehicles, the recall repairs completed by a Mercedes-Benz dealer during recall 5491309 (Transport Canada recall no. 2022-397) may not have been done correctly. As a result, a second repair is required. On certain vehicles equipped with 4-wheel drive (4Matic), the transmission wiring harness may not be routed correctly. As a result, water could enter the wiring harness connector and cause a short circuit. Note: This recall replaces Transport Canada recall no. 2022-397.

Why it matters

A short circuit can create the risk of a fire, even while the vehicle is parked and turned off.

Mercedes-Benz will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the transmission wiring harness.

Why it matters

A storage compartment that opens in a crash could allow objects to move inside the vehicle, creating a risk of injury.

What is wrong

On certain vehicles equipped with the emergency calling (eCall) system, the SIM card for the communications module could disable itself. If this happens, the eCall system would not work properly when there is a crash or when the SOS button is pressed.

Why it matters

If the eCall system does not work in an emergency situation, there could be a delay in response from emergency services.

On certain vehicles, a software problem could cause the rearview camera image not to appear on the central display. Canadian regulations require the rearview image to display when the transmission is shifted into reverse gear.

What is wrong

On certain vehicles, the power supply cable to the starter may have been attached incorrectly. As a result, the power cable could contact the starter housing. This can damage the cable, and could result in a short circuit. Note: This recall only affects certain AMG E 63 S, GT 63 and GT 63 S models.

Why it matters

A short circuit could cause the vehicle to stall and create the risk of a fire.

What is wrong

On certain vehicles, a faulty part could cause one of the mounts for rear axle carrier to detach. If this happens, the driver may notice a loud knocking sound from the rear of the vehicle. If the vehicle continues to be driven with this problem, over time the remaining mounting bolts may fail. This could cause the rear axle carrier to separate from the vehicle.

Why it matters

A rear axle carrier separation could affect vehicle control and increase the risk of a crash.

Mercedes-Benz will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to inspect the mount for the rear axle carrier. If the left-front bolt connection is damaged, the vehicle will be bought back.
