What is wrong

On certain motorcycles, the fuel pump flange could crack. If this happens, fuel could leak while the engine is running. Note: This is an expansion of recall 16 002 20 (014) (Transport Canada Recall No. 2020-437).

Why it matters

A fuel leak can create the risk of a fire.

What the dealer will do

BMW will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your motorcycle to a dealer to replace the fuel pump and auxiliary fuel pump (if equipped) with an improved version.

What is wrong

Certain tinted windshields sold as accessories through BMW dealerships may fail to comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 205 - Glazing Materials. The windshields may contain extra tinting in certain areas, which would be contrary to the requirements of the standard and could potentially limit the driver's visibility, increasing the risk of a crash.

What the dealer will do

Dealers will replace the tinted windshield with one that meets the standard's requirements.

What is wrong

Certain motorcycles with dealer installed accessory turn signals may not comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CVMSS) 108 - Lighting System and Retroreflective Devices. The size of the lens on the accessory turn signals may be too small, and therefore would not meet the requirements of the standard. This could reduce vehicle conspicuity to following and approaching road users, and increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or property damage.

What the dealer will do

Dealers will replace the accessory turn signals with factory indicators that meet the requirements of the standard.

What is wrong

On certain motorcycles, the upper fork seal plug could loosen after severe impact, such as a large pot hole or an accident. Loose fork seal plugs may not be noticeable by the rider. This could result in oil leaks, a rattling noise and unstable steering. If operated in this condition, the plugs could separate, affecting vehicle handling. These issues could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.

What the dealer will do

Dealers will fit an additional fixed fork bushing, or replace the forks with an improved design, as necessary.

What is wrong

On certain motorcycles, the gearbox sealing ring could be displaced due to changes in internal gearbox pressure, causing an oil leak into the rear suspension swingarm. If the swingarm sealing bellow is not fully tightened, leaking oil could be dispersed onto the rear tire, which could decrease tire traction and increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.

Dealers will install a sealing ring retaining bracket.

On certain motorcycles, the Automatic Stability Control (ASC) system may not reactivate following off-road use in the “Enduro-Pro” mode. As the ASC warning lamp is no longer illuminated, the rider may be unaware that the system is still currently deactivated. This could result in a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury.

On certain motorcycles, transmission oil pressure may be too high, causing the output shaft sealing ring to leak. Oil leakage ahead of the rear tire could render the vehicle unstable. This could result in a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury.

Dealers will install an oil restrictor to reduce oil pressure at the transmssion output.
