Fuel System

Transport Canada recall 2024095 · manufacturer campaign 20UF / 20YF

14 February 2024

Transport Canada lists: A 3 2015–2020 · Golf 2015–2019 · Gti 2015–2020 · Jetta 2019–2020

What is wrong

On certain vehicles, a seal for the suction jet pump inside the fuel tank could fail. As a result, fuel may flow directly into the evaporative emission control system (EVAP). If this happens, fuel could leak from the charcoal canister. Note: This problem could cause a fuel odor, the fuel nozzle to stop early and/or fuel to spill when refueling.

Why it matters

A fuel leak can create the risk of a fire.

What the dealer will do

The company will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the suction jet pump.

What is wrong

On certain models, the chrome layer could peel off of the trim located around the gear shift cover. If this happens, sharp edges can be created.

Why it matters

Exposed sharp edges can create the risk of a cut.

What the dealer will do

Volkswagen will contact owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to replace the gear shift cover trim frame.

Transport Canada recall 2019423 · manufacturer campaign 37M2

22 August 2019

Transport Canada lists: Beetle 2012–2018 · Golf 2015–2019 · Gti 2015–2019 · Jetta 2011–2017

What is wrong

On certain vehicles, a build-up of silicate on the shift lever switch could cause the transmission to detect that it is in the Park position when it isn't. This could allow the ignition key to be removed when the transmission is not in the Park position. If the parking brake is not applied, this could allow the car to roll away.

Why it matters

If the transmission position is not displayed correctly, a user may not know that the vehicle is not in the PARK position. If the parking brake is not applied, this could create a risk of a vehicle roll-away and increase the risk of a crash.

What the dealer will do

The company will notify owners by mail. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to have a new shift lever micro switch and control unit installed.

Transport Canada recall 2016430 · manufacturer campaign 20Y5 / 20Y6

2 September 2016

Transport Canada lists: A 3 2015–2016 · Golf 2015–2016 · Gti 2015–2016

What is wrong

On certain vehicles, the suction pump inside the fuel tank designed to purge fuel from the evaporative emissions (EVAP) system may be compromised. This could cause fuel to flow directly into the EVAP system which could, over time, accumulate and cause a leak through the charcoal canister filter element. Leaking fuel, in the presence of an ignition source, could lead to a fire causing injury and/or damage to property.

What the dealer will do

Dealers will replace the suction pump inside the fuel tank.

Transport Canada recall 2015504 · manufacturer campaign 23R1

23 October 2015

Transport Canada lists: Beetle 2015–2016 · Golf 2015–2016 · Gti 2015–2016 · Jetta 2015–2016 · and 1 more

What is wrong

On certain vehicles, the camshaft lobe which actuates the vacuum pump may fail, causing the pump to fail to deliver further vacuum supply to the brake booster, potentially increasing stopping distances. This would also result in a reduction in available engine power. These issues could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Note: This issue would result in the Engine Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) illuminating.

What the dealer will do

Dealers will update the engine control module (ECM) software.

16 April 2015

Transport Canada lists: A 3 2015 · Golf 2015 · Gti 2015

What is wrong

On certain vehicles, improper nickel plating of certain fuel pump internal components could contaminate the pump, potentially resulting in an inoperative fuel pump. This could result in a no-start condition, or an engine stall without warning and without the ability to restart the vehicle, which could increase the risk of a crash.

What the dealer will do

Dealers will replace the fuel pump.

What the dealer will do

Dealers will inspect, and if necessary, replace the fuel rail.

What is wrong

On certain vehicles, the stabilizer link fasteners may have been improperly torqued during the assembly process. As a result, the fasteners may loosen over time. This could result in the stabilizer link detaching and interfering with the vehicle's steering, which would unexpectedly increase steering effort, and could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.
