What is wrong

This recall is for certain block heater kits installed on certain vehicles or sold as accessories at Toyota or Lexus dealerships. On certain vehicles, the engine block heater cable may not have enough heat protection and could be damaged by high temperatures. If this happens, the cable could short circuit while plugged in, and cause the wiring to overheat or melt. Why it matters

Engine block heater wiring that overheats or melts could create the risk of a fire.

What the dealer will do

Toyota recommends that you should stop using the engine block heater immediately. Toyota will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to disable the engine block heater. For some vehicles, the corrective actions for this recall are under development. For others, a new engine block heater cannot be installed, and the owner will receive a refund of the purchase price of the engine block heater.

What is wrong

Over time, the wiring to the side airbag sensors in the front doors could corrode. This could cause the front seat-mounted side airbags and curtain shield airbags not to work properly. Note: This problem would cause the airbag warning light (SRS warning) to turn on.

Why it matters

Airbags that do not work properly in a crash could create an increased risk of injury.

What the dealer will do

The company will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their vehicle to a dealer to replace the front door wire harness assemblies, as necessary.

What is wrong

On certain vehicles, the front strut mount bearing components may be damaged when a high load is applied to the strut, such as when the vehicle is driven over a large bump. If the vehicle is operated with a damaged bearing, it could cause the upper strut rod assembly to separate, resulting in a loss of vehicle stability which would increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.

What the dealer will do

Dealers will replace the strut mounting bearing with improved ones. If damage is found on the bearing, dealers will also replace the strut and front suspension support sub-assembly.

What is wrong

On certain vehicles, the rear axle hub bearing assembly bolt may not have been tightened properly. This could cause the bolts to become loose and detach from the hub assembly, which could damage the rear brake components. This could increase stopping distances and could also potentially cause wheel lock up, resulting in vehicle instability increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.

What the dealer will do

Dealers will inspect bolts and tighten to specification. If bolts are missing, the rear axle hub bearing assembly and rear brake components will be replaced.
