What is wrong

This recall is for certain block heater kits installed on certain vehicles or sold as accessories at Toyota or Lexus dealerships. On certain vehicles, the engine block heater cable may not have enough heat protection and could be damaged by high temperatures. If this happens, the cable could short circuit while plugged in, and cause the wiring to overheat or melt. Why it matters

Engine block heater wiring that overheats or melts could create the risk of a fire.

What the dealer will do

Toyota recommends that you should stop using the engine block heater immediately. Toyota will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to disable the engine block heater. For some vehicles, the corrective actions for this recall are under development. For others, a new engine block heater cannot be installed, and the owner will receive a refund of the purchase price of the engine block heater.

What is wrong

On certain vans converted to a rear-entry mobility vehicle by BraunAbility, the fittings for the brake line extensions may be incorrect. This could cause a brake fluid leak that may result in reducing braking. Note: This problem affects conversions that were built between January 9, 2018, and May 20, 2019.

Why it matters

Reduced braking could cause extended stopping distances and increase the risk of a crash.

What the dealer will do

The company will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their vehicle to a BraunAbility dealer to inspect the brake line connections. If necessary, an adapter fitting will be installed and the brake system will be bled.

What is wrong

On certain vehicles equipped with power sliding doors, under certain conditions which impede the opening of the door (such as if the door becomes frozen with ice), the sliding door motor could stall when the door is operated. If the motor stalls, high current in the door motor circuit could be generated, operating the circuit protection for the door motor. If this occurs with the sliding door latch mechanism in an unlatched position, the door could open while driving, increasing the risk of injury to a vehicle occupant.

What the dealer will do

Dealers will replace the existing junction block and the rear sliding door wire harnesses with newly designed ones. The dealer will also install two sub wire harnesses to connect the junction block to the two rear door wire harnesses.

What is wrong

On certain vehicles, in the event of a collision that warrants a deployment of the curtain shield airbag (CSA), the force transmitted to the headliner as the airbag inflates may cause the left and/or right side second row overhead assist grip to detach from its mounting brackets if the temperature in the roof rail area is high from outside ambient temperature. If an assist grip were to completely detach, it could contact an occupant, which would increase the risk of injury in the event of a crash.

What the dealer will do

Dealers will modify the headliner near the second row overhead assist grips.
