On certain trucks, the side curtain airbag inflators may be defective. As a result, the driver and/or passenger side curtain airbag inflator(s) could rupture unexpectedly and metal fragments could be propelled toward vehicle occupants. Note: This recall also affects certain 2016 model year RAM 3500 chassis cab incomplete vehicles.

Why it matters

An airbag inflator that ruptures can create a risk of injury.

On certain trucks, a buildup of heat and pressure inside the transmission could cause fluid to leak from the transmission dipstick tube. Note: This recall only affects trucks equipped with a Cummins 6.7 L diesel engine and a 68RFE automatic transmission.

On certain vehicles equipped with a 6.7 L Cummins diesel engine, the high-pressure fuel pump could fail. If this happens, you may notice a change in engine performance, a fuel leak, or the check engine light may turn on. This could also result in a sudden loss of engine power while driving.

On certain trucks, the bracket for the bed step could break if too much side-load is applied to it. If this happens, the step could fail when it is used.
