Transport Canada recall 1989091 · manufacturer campaign JZ

28 June 1989

Transport Canada lists: 928 1985–1987

What is wrong

THE HEATSHIELD ABOVE THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER IS INADEQUATE UNDER CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES INVOLVING ENGINE MALFUNCTION. A MISFIRING ENGINE COULD OVERHEAT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER CAUSING MATERIALS IN THE VICINITY OF THE CONVERTER, INCLUDING THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID LINES TO IGNITE RESULTING IN AN UNDERBODY FIRE.

What the dealer will do

1) REPLACE THE HEATSHIEL WITH A LARGER IMPROVED HEATSHIELD. 2) INSTALL A HEAT RESISTANT SLEEVE ON ATF LINES WHERE NECESSARY. 3) REPLACE PLASTIC ATF LINE MOUNTING BRACKET IN PROXIMITY TO THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WITH A METAL MOUNTING BRACKET.
