Good news: Recall repairs are almost always free. Book with any manufacturer dealer and quote the recall number. Transport Canada’s own wording is that a manufacturer “will almost always make these repairs free of charge”, so being asked to pay for recall work is unusual and worth questioning. What is wrong

On certain vehicles, seat cushion parts installed in the front passenger seat as service replacement parts may have been incorrectly calibrated. This could cause the occupant classification system to misinterpret the stature of the seat occupant, which could result in the airbag not deploying when warranted, increasing the risk of injury.

What the dealer will do

Dealers will inspect the front passenger seat cushion and occupant classification mat, and replace if necessary. Note: Should this occur, vehicle occupants would be alerted of a problem by the "PASSENGER AIRBAG OFF" warning light illuminating.

What is wrong

Certain vehicles may not comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 208 - Occupant Protection in Frontal Impacts. The internal components of the passenger frontal airbag inflator may not have been assembled properly during manufacturing. The passenger frontal airbag’s first stage (only) deployment could be affected, delaying the deployment timing of the second stage. This could result in the right front occupant not receiving the intended protection from the frontal airbag in a low speed or out-of-position crash, increasing the risk of injury to the occupant where airbag deployment is warranted.

What the dealer will do

Dealers will replace the passenger frontal airbag module.
