Engine

Transport Canada recall 2020121 · manufacturer campaign 1892005

22 March 2020

Transport Canada lists: S 2018–2019

What is wrong

On certain S 560 and Maybach S 560 models, the plugs used to close oil ports on the engine could fail. If this happens, oil can leak from the engine. If the engine oil level drops, a red warning message would display in the instrument cluster. If a driver continues to operate the vehicle, the engine could run out of oil and fail.

Why it matters

An oil leak on the road surface could become a hazard for other road users. An engine that fails would result in a sudden loss of engine power. Both of these conditions could increase the risk of a crash.

What the dealer will do

Mercedes-Benz will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to replace the closure plugs. You should avoid sudden acceleration and driving the vehicle at high engine speeds until the recall repairs are completed. If you detect any of the warnings listed, you should contact a dealership to have your vehicle inspected.

What is wrong

On certain S-Class, AMG S 63 and Maybach S 560 models, the steering boot may not be positioned correctly.
