Under certain conditions, a software problem could cause too much fuel to be injected into the engine. As a result, the exhaust system could overheat and cause the engine wiring harness to melt. If this happens, there could be a sudden loss of power to the wheels.

Why it matters

A loss of power to the wheels could increase the risk of a crash. Additionally, wiring that melts could create the risk of a fire.

Mercedes-Benz will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to update the engine control unit software.

On certain vehicles, the control module for the taillamps may not work properly. As a result, the rear turn signals, rear hazard warning lights, and reverse lights may not work properly.

Turn signals or reverse lights that do not work properly could cause road users to be confused of the driver's intentions. Hazard lights that do not work properly could make the vehicle less visible. These issues could increase the risk of a crash.

On certain vehicles, a software problem could cause the engine to shut off shortly after being started, and you may not be able to restart it.

Why it matters

A loss of engine power could increase the risk of a crash.

What the dealer will do

Mercedes-Benz will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to update the engine control unit software. Mercedes-Benz advises that you should run the engine for at least 15 seconds after starting it, before you begin to drive.
