What is wrong

On a small number of vehicles, the right-rear door lock may not latch properly. As a result, the door could open while driving. Also, if a person tries to forcefully open the right-rear door while the child safety lock is activated, the door lock could become damaged. If this happens, passengers may not be able to open the door from inside the vehicle. Note: This recall is an expansion of Transport Canada recall no. 2021-285.

Why it matters

A door that opens while driving could create an increased risk of injury. A door that cannot be opened from inside the vehicle may make it difficult to get out in an emergency.

What the dealer will do

Mercedes-Benz will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealer to replace the right-rear door lock.

What is wrong

On certain vehicles, the front axle wiring harness could be damaged by contact with the auxiliary oil cooler. If this happens, the vehicle electronic stability program (ESP) and antilock brake system (ABS) may not work correctly.

Why it matters

Antilock brake (ABS) and vehicle stability control (ESP) systems that don't work correctly could increase the risk of a crash.

What the dealer will do

Mercedes-Benz will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect, and if necessary, replace the front axle wiring harness. The dealer will also install a protective sleeve.

What is wrong

On certain vehicles equipped with the emergency calling (eCall) system, the SIM card for the communications module could disable itself. If this happens, the eCall system would not work properly when there is a crash or when the SOS button is pressed.

Why it matters

If the eCall system does not work in an emergency situation, there could be a delay in response from emergency services.

Mercedes-Benz will notify owners by mail and send a wireless over-the-air software update to each vehicle. If the update cannot be completed successfully, you will be notified to schedule an appointment to have the update performed by a dealer.

What is wrong

On certain vehicles, the crash sensors in the front doors could disconnect due to a defect with the sensor housings. If this happens, the airbag light will turn on. If this happens during a side-impact crash, the response from the restraint (airbag) system may be delayed.

Why it matters

A delay in the activation of the side airbag, curtain airbag and/or seat belt pretensioner could create an increased the risk of injury in a crash.

What is wrong

On certain vehicles, the symbol on the rear door that indicates the child safety lock setting is incorrect. This could cause a person to set the child safety lock incorrectly. As a result, a child may be able to open a rear door from the inside of the vehicle. Alternatively, it may not be possible for a person to open the rear doors from the inside even if the doors are unlocked.

Why it matters

If the child safety lock is not set correctly, a child may be able to open a rear door while with the vehicle is moving. Alternatively, the wrong setting could delay exiting the vehicle in an emergency. Both of these issues could increase the risk of injury.

What is wrong

On certain vehicles, there could be a problem with the differential locking module. This could cause the control unit not to detect the correct status of the differential lock. As a result, both the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) and Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) systems may turn off. If this happens, a warning message will appear in the instrument cluster. Safety Risk: If the ESP and ABS systems turn off suddenly or do not work properly, under certain road conditions, there could be an increased risk of a loss of control or a crash.
