What is wrong

On certain vehicles, moisture could enter the driver-side door lock microswitch and cause it to corrode. As a result, the microswitch may fail to automatically engage the parking brake and/or the auto park feature when the door is opened. If this happens, the vehicle could roll away. Note: This problem could also cause the radio and/or interior lights to remain on after exiting the vehicle.

Why it matters

A parked vehicle that rolls away could create the risk of an injury or a crash.

If this happens, the wrong vehicle location may be transmitted through the eCall system. This could cause emergency responders to be sent to the wrong location.

If the eCall system sends out the wrong location after a crash, there could be a delay in response from emergency services.

What is wrong

On certain C 300 and AMG C 43 vehicles, a software problem could cause a situation where the parking brake cannot be deactivated. In other instances, the parking brake may be deactivated by the owner, however the vehicle can only be driven without Electronic Stability Program (ESP) functionality, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.

On certain vehicles equipped with an Audio 20 head unit and automatic child seat recognition, the status of the passenger airbag may not be displayed correctly. For example, the display may indicate that an airbag is turned off when it is not. This could create a situation where a child or small-statured occupant is inadvertently placed in front of an active airbag. This could increase the risk of injury in a crash.
