Recalls

Good news: Recall repairs are almost always free. Book with any manufacturer dealer and quote the recall number. Transport Canada’s own wording is that a manufacturer “will almost always make these repairs free of charge”, so being asked to pay for recall work is unusual and worth questioning. Since 2018 the Minister of Transport can order a company to pay for repairs so owners do not bear the cost.

Transport Canada recall 2002078 · manufacturer campaign D274

3 October 2002

Transport Canada lists: Discovery Series II 1999–2002

What is wrong

On certain sport utility vehicles the accelerator cable could have become kinked during vehicle assembly, resulting in chaffing of the cable. Continued chaffing can lead to breakage of the interior cable strands. Breakage of the cable strands can result in the throttle being stuck in the open position, increasing the risk of a crash.

What the dealer will do

Dealers will inspect and replace the damaged cables where necessary.

Transport Canada recall 2002079 · manufacturer campaign D263

10 March 2002

Transport Canada lists: Discovery Series II 1999–2002

What is wrong

On certain sport utility vehicles contamination of an anti-lock braking system (ABS) sensor can cause the ABS electronic control unit (ecu) to incorrectly interpret the sensor signal, resulting in inappropriate abs activation. This can lead to an increase in braking distance that is unanticipated by the driver.

What the dealer will do

Dealers will install a new ECU.

Transport Canada recall 2001123 · manufacturer campaign D233

19 January 2001

Transport Canada lists: Discovery Series II 1999–2001 · Range Rover 1999–2001

What is wrong

On certain vehicles, water contamination of the automatic transmission oil can lead to various failure modes of the transmission. One of these failure modes results in incorrect operation of the park lock function that could allow a vehicle to roll away if parked without the handbrake properly set.

What the dealer will do

Dealers will check the park lock function; reposition the automatic transmission breather tube; and test the automatic transmission fluid and flush if necessary.

Source: Transport Canada — Vehicle Recalls Database; NRCan — Fuel consumption ratings. Data current as of 6 August 2026. Running cost uses Ontario average prices (155 ¢/L, 14.5 ¢/kWh), which are hand-maintained estimates. These are average residential rates. A car’s charging is added on top of what your home already uses, so on a tiered, time-of-use or subsidised tariff it is billed at your top rate rather than this average — which makes the real cost higher, especially in the territories.
