What is wrong

Hyundai Auto Canada is conducting a Product Improvement Campaign that provides an update to the engine control module to detect potential problems before an engine fails. An engine failure would cause a sudden loss of power with an inability to restart. Note: This only affects certain vehicles equipped with a 2.0 L Nu GDI engine. For the Sonata model, only the Sonata Hybrid and Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV) models are affected by this campaign. This is an expansion of R0180 (Transport Canada #2021-575). Any vehicle that received a software update under campaign R0180 does not require this update.

Why it matters

A sudden loss of engine power could increase the risk of an accident. An engine failure could also create the risk of a fire.

What the dealer will do

Hyundai will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealer to update the software for the engine control module. Note: Hyundai recommends that you should always follow the correct vehicle maintenance schedule, which is printed in the Owner's Manual. If you experience unusual engine noise, reduced power, or a check engine/oil warning light, Hyundai advises you to immediately visit a Hyundai dealership to have your vehicle diagnosed.

What is wrong

On certain vehicles, a problem in the control module for the antilock brake system (ABS) could cause it to short circuit. Note: This is an expansion of recall 2020-431. This recall does not affect vehicles equipped with Smart Cruise Control(SCC).

Why it matters

A short circuit could create a fire risk.

What the dealer will do

Hyundai will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealer to revise the ABS fuse wiring and update the ABS control module, if necessary. Hyundai recommends that you should park your vehicle outdoors, and away from other vehicles or structures until the recall repairs have been completed.

What is wrong

On certain vehicles equipped with a 7-Speed Dual-Clutch Transmission (DCT), in higher ambient temperatures, the transmission clutch could have delayed engagement when accelerating from a stop. If the accelerator pedal is steadily depressed for approximately 1.5 to 2 seconds, the vehicle will begin to accelerate and normal driving is resumed. However, if the accelerator pedal is repeatedly cycled, the vehicle will not accelerate. A loss of motive power may increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.

What the dealer will do

Dealers will reprogram the Transmission Control Module.

What is wrong

On certain vehicles, the secondary hood latch can potentially disengage due to a tolerance build-up between the latch and catch mechanisms. If the vehicle were to be driven with the primary hood latch disengaged, there is a potential that the secondary hood latch may not hold the hood closed as designed while the vehicle is in motion. If this were to occur, it could compromise the driver’s ability to see the road and its users, as well as cause damage to the windshield. These issues could result in a crash causing injury and/or property damage.

What the dealer will do

Dealers will replace the secondary hood latch catch with a revised component. Note: There would be a visual warning in the instrument cluster to indicate that the primary latch would be disengaged, and for “Limited” and “Ultimate” trim models, there would be an additional audible warning.

What is wrong

Certain vehicles outfitted with a tow hitch accessory may not comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 108 - Lighting System and Retroreflective Devices. Due to an incompatibility between the tow hitch harness control module and the vehicle’s power supply circuitry, when the vehicle’s engine is running and the brake lights are illuminated, if the turn signal is activated the trailer’s turn signal lamp may either: a) Remain continuously illuminated (not flash), or b) Turn off. As a result, drivers may not be able to clearly signal their intentions to turn, change lanes, which could increase the risk of a crash.

Dealers will update the tow hitch harness.
