What is wrong

Under certain conditions, water could leak into the starter solenoid. If this happens, the solenoid could short circuit.

Why it matters

A short circuit can create a fire risk, even while the vehicle is parked and turned off.

What the dealer will do

Hyundai will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to install an updated relay in the engine junction box. Hyundai recommends that you should park your vehicle outdoors and away from other vehicles or structures until the recall repairs have been completed.

What is wrong

On certain vehicles, brake fluid could leak into the control module for the antilock brake system (ABS) and cause it to short circuit. Note: This recall replaces recall R0246 (Transport Canada recall number 2023-527). For the Sonata model, only the Sonata Hybrid model is affected by this recall.

What is wrong

Hyundai is conducting a special service campaign that provides anti-corrosion treatment to certain underbody components. Over time, components under the vehicle, including brake lines could corrode. If this happens, a brake line could fail and leak. A brake fluid leak can result in reduced braking.

Why it matters

Reduced braking can cause an extended stopping distance and increase the risk of a crash.

What the dealer will do

Hyundai will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect the underbody, including the brake lines. The dealer will apply an anti-corrosion treatment to certain parts, and replace the brake lines if necessary.

What is wrong

On certain vehicles equipped with a manual parking brake, the electrical switch which illuminates the parking brake warning light in the instrument cluster could become corroded. This could result in the parking brake warning light intermittently not illuminating when the parking brake is applied. A failure of the parking brake indicator to illuminate when the parking brake is applied can result in a driver misapplication of the parking brake, which may cause the following conditions: effect on vehicle acceleration, parking brake noise and/or parking brake “drag” and smoke and/or smell from driving with the applied parking brake.

Dealers will replace the parking brake switch with a switch that revised contact material.

What is wrong

On certain vehicles, objects or debris located under the front passenger seat could contact the electrical connector of the Occupant Classification System (OCS) and disconnect the connector if the seat is moved. This would disable the OCS and illuminate the instrument cluster Air Bag warning lamp. If the OCS is disabled, the first stage front passenger airbag would deploy in a frontal collision, regardless of the weight and size of the front passenger seat occupant. If the seat were to be occupied by a child seat or small statured occupant, it could increase the risk of injury. Additionally, this condition could cause the second stage of the frontal passenger airbag to fail to deploy during a crash, which could increase the risk of injury to the front passenger seat occupant.

Dealers will secure the OCS connector to prevent it from being disconnected.

What is wrong

On certain vehicles equipped with the optional 7 inch LCD instrument cluster, there could be communication errors between the Audio, Visual, and Navigation (AVN) head unit and cluster. This could lead to the following symptoms: All warning lights illuminating, inaccurate speedometer/tachometer readings, no cluster illumination, turn signal indicators not illuminating when turn signals are activated and possibly a momentarily inoperative instrument cluster. Incorrect (or loss of) readings, messages, and warning lights displayed by the instrument cluster could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.

Dealers will reprogram the instrument cluster with updated software.

What is wrong

On certain vehicles, the factory installed Hankook Ventus S1 Noble 2 tires could experience a rapid loss of air pressure due to a rupture of the sidewall under severe usage conditions. Rapid air loss could cause a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.

On certain vehicles equipped with manual transmissions, the mounting bolts securing the rear differential may not have been properly fastened due to the suspension’s rear crossmember and differential. Over time, the bolt(s) may loosen, and could cause the driveshaft to separate from the differential, which would result in excessive noise and loss of motive power, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.

What is wrong

On certain vehicles, water could enter the rear combination lamp assemblies due to an improper seal. In some instances, accumulated water could affect the range switch signals. If this were to occur while the vehicle is stopped and the shifter were to be moved from Park to Reverse or Drive, or the shifter is moved from Drive to Reverse or Park, it could result in one or more of the following symptoms: the incorrect gear is displayed in the instrument panel, illumination of malfunction indicator lamp(s) and/or a delay in the engagement of the selected gear. An incorrect gear being selected could cause unintended vehicle movement, which could result in injury and/or damage to property.

Dealers will apply pads to prevent water intrusion into the combination lamp housing.
