Transport Canada recall 2003213 · manufacturer campaign 30

4 September 2003

Transport Canada lists: 360 1999

What is wrong

On certain vehicles, a software programming error exists in the integrated electronic instrument cluster. Under certain circumstances, the red Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) warning light will not illuminate. As a result, if a problem existed with the brake system and the vehicle's use was continued, loss of vehicle control and a crash could occur.

What the dealer will do

Dealer will reprogram the instrument cluster.

Engine

Transport Canada recall 2003212 · manufacturer campaign 28

4 September 2003

Transport Canada lists: 360 1999–2000

What is wrong

On certain vehicles, the starter ring gear which is attached to the clutch assembly with three mounting screws may become separated. This failure could be caused by a fracture of the starter ring gear itself due to incorrect positioning of the mounting holes or; by the failure of the mounting screws. If either of these conditions occur, fragments of the starter ring gear may be thrown from the clutch area. If these fragments came into contact with the vehicle's tire, a puncture could occur resulting in the possible loss of vehicle control and a crash without prior warning to the driver.

What the dealer will do

Dealer will replace the starter ring gear and/or mounting screws.

Brakes

Transport Canada recall 2003211 · manufacturer campaign 27

4 September 2003

Transport Canada lists: 360 1999

What is wrong

On certain vehicles, the ABS (anti-lock braking system) / ASR (traction control system) Electronic Control Unit is affected by an error in production which may cause the braking system's ABS feature not to function and the brake failure warning light to illuminate. Also, due to the characteristics of the braking system, this error will cause the EBD (electronic brake force distribution) feature not to function, which could cause vehicle instability under hard braking. If the vehicle's use is continued despite an illuminated brake failure warning light, eventual brake failure can occur and could result in a crash.

What the dealer will do

Dealer will replace the ABS / ASR Electronic Control unit.

Transport Canada recall 2003210 · manufacturer campaign 25

4 September 2003

Transport Canada lists: 360 1999

What is wrong

On certain vehicles, the mounting of the airbag Electronic Control Unit (ECU) may not be suited for long term reliability. If left unchanged, the airbag ECU mounting could become weak and could compromise the ability of the ECU to sense a crash and deploy the airbag.

What the dealer will do

Dealer will secure the airbag ECU to the body element using longer screws.

Brakes

Transport Canada recall 2003208 · manufacturer campaign 19

4 September 2003

Transport Canada lists: 360 1999

What is wrong

On certain vehicles, the brake and clutch fluid reservoir hoses may not be resistant to brake fluid, which could cause a failure of the hoses. Should this occur, the result would be illumination of the brake failure light, followed by loss of vehicle braking efficiency. If the vehicle's use is continued despite an illuminated brake failure light, eventual brake failure can occur and can result in a vehicle crash.

What the dealer will do

Dealer will replace the brake and clutch fluid reservoir hoses.
