Recalls

Good news: Recall repairs are almost always free. Book with any manufacturer dealer and quote the recall number. Transport Canada’s own wording is that a manufacturer “will almost always make these repairs free of charge”, so being asked to pay for recall work is unusual and worth questioning. Since 2018 the Minister of Transport can order a company to pay for repairs so owners do not bear the cost.

What is wrong

Over time, the transmission control valve could wear and lose pressure. If this happens, the transmission could shift harshly and could cause the rear wheels to lock up. Note: This recall only affects vehicles equipped with a diesel engine.

Why it matters

Rear wheels that lock suddenly could cause a loss of control and increase the risk of a crash.

What the dealer will do

General Motors will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to update the transmission control module software to detect excess wear in advance of a wheel lock up. If detected, a service engine light would turn on, a message would display in the instrument panel and the vehicle would be limited to fifth gear.

What is wrong

On certain trucks, water could leak into the exterior tailgate switch. As a result, the tailgate could unlatch and open unexpectedly while parked. If this happens, cargo that is not secured could fall out of the truck bed and onto the road when the vehicle is moving. Note: This recall only affects trucks equipped with a power-locking tailgate.

Why it matters

Cargo that falls from the truck bed could create a road hazard for others and increase the risk of a crash.

What the dealer will do

General Motors will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your truck to a dealership to replace the exterior tailgate switch. To reduce the safety risk, General Motors recommends that you should inspect the tailgate to ensure it's closed and latched before driving.

Transport Canada recall 2020304 · manufacturer campaign N202307630

3 July 2020

Transport Canada lists: Silverado HD 2020

What is wrong

On certain trucks equipped with dual rear wheels and work truck trim level, the roof-mounted front clearance and identification lamps were not installed. Canadian regulations require these lamps on vehicles that are more than 2,032 mm (80“) wide.

Why it matters

A vehicle without clearance and identification lamps could be less visible to other road users, which could increase the risk of a crash.

What the dealer will do

General Motors will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your truck to a dealer to install the missing clearance and identification lamps.

What is wrong

On certain 2500 and 3500 series trucks, over time, the hood latch could fail. If this happens, the hood may open suddenly while driving.

Why it matters

If the hood opens while driving, it could block the driver's view and increase the risk of a crash.

What the dealer will do

General Motors will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to replace the hood assembly.

Source: Transport Canada — Vehicle Recalls Database; NRCan — Fuel consumption ratings. Data current as of 6 August 2026. Running cost uses Ontario average prices (155 ¢/L, 14.5 ¢/kWh), which are hand-maintained estimates. These are average residential rates. A car’s charging is added on top of what your home already uses, so on a tiered, time-of-use or subsidised tariff it is billed at your top rate rather than this average — which makes the real cost higher, especially in the territories.
