What is wrong

On certain vehicles operated in areas of high salt use, the spare tire hoist cable may corrode and eventually break. This would allow the spare tire to fall off the vehicle possibly resulting in a road hazard for other vehicles.

What the dealer will do

A letter will be sent to owners of affected vehicles with maintenance and inspection instructions for spare tire hoist cable assemblies. Additionally, the letter will advise the owner that, if the cable breaks during that inspection, their dealer will repair the assembly. This policy will be in effect until December 31, 2002.

What is wrong

On certain crew cab pick ups, the front inner corner of the fuel tank may contact the body sill and over time wear a hole in or crack the fuel tank at the point of contact. This condition could result in fuel leakage and in the presence of an ignition source, a fire could occur.

What the dealer will do

Tank will be inspected for wear and a spacer will be installed between the fuel tank and the front crossmember, or if necessary, the fuel tank will be replaced.

What is wrong

Certain vehicles may have windshield wiper motors with solder joints near the wiring harness connector that could crack. This could cause the windshield wiper to work intermittently and ultimately result in inoperative wipers. This could reduce driver visibility in inclement weather and result in a crash.

What the dealer will do

Wiper motor circuit board and cover will be replaced.

What is wrong

Certain vehicles exhibit a condition in which a pinch bolt exists in the recliner mechanism that could trap and pinch a person's hand or finger(s) when the easy entry feature is activated. This pinching could cut the hand or possibly sever the finger(s) without prior warning.

What is wrong

Certain vehicles may have a bead damage to the tires which occurred during tire mounting. The damage to the tire reinforcing structure in the bead "toe" area would likely manifest itself as a bulge in the sidewall after the tire is inflated. This damage could result in rapid air loss, which could cause injuries to anyone if they were handling the tire when this occurred.

What the dealer will do

Tires will be demounted and inspected for bead damage. If bead damage is present, the tire will be replaced.

What is wrong

Certain vehicles may not comply with CMVSS 124 - Accelerator Control Systems. Vehicles may have been assembled with the throttle cable contacting the dash mat. The dash mat may bind the throttle cable such that the throttle return time may not meet the requirements of the standard.

What the dealer will do

Dealers will inspect for adequate throttle cable to dash mat clearance, and if there is insufficient clearance, a portion of the dash mat will be cut out to provide clearance.

What is wrong

On certain vehicles, the steering column upper intermediate shaft nut may not be torqued to the proper specification. The nut could detach allowing the through bolt that secures the upper intermediate shaft to the lower steering column shaft to fall out. This could result in possible shaft separation, loss of steering control and a vehicle crash.

Suspect fasteners will be torqued to specification.

What is wrong

On certain vehicles, the transmission shift cable lock clip may back out of its installed position resulting in loss of cable adjustment. This could cause the transmission to not obtain mechanical PARK when the shift lever is placed in the PARK position. If the driver fails to apply the parking brake, unwanted vehicle movement could occur.

What the dealer will do

The shift cable will be adjusted and a redundant lock clip will be installed.
