What is wrong

On certain motorcycles, a software problem in the electronic control unit (ECU) may cause damage to the starter motor or starter relay. If this happens, the rider may not be able to start the engine.

Why it matters

Being unable to start the engine under certain circumstances, such as after an engine stall at a traffic light, could increase the risk of a crash.

What the dealer will do

None of the affected vehicles have been sold to retail customers. BMW will instruct dealers to update the ECU software and replace the battery, if necessary.
