Transport Canada recall 2026332 · manufacturer campaign 12 83 26RC / 12 84 26RC

8 July 2026

Transport Canada lists: 3 2016–2018 · 5 2018–2020 · 7 2017–2019

What is wrong

On certain vehicles, water could leak into the starter relay and cause it to corrode. If this happens, the relay could short circuit and the starter could overheat. Note: This recall only affects plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models.

Why it matters

A short circuit and/or a starter that overheats can create a fire risk, even while the vehicle is parked and turned off.

What the dealer will do

To reduce the safety risk, BMW advises that you should park your vehicle outdoors and away from other vehicles or structures until the recall repairs have been completed. BMW will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the engine starter.

What is wrong

On certain vehicles, a wrong part may have been installed by a BMW dealer during recall 11 81 22RC (Transport Canada recall no. 2022-452). As a result, a second repair is required. On certain 540d xDrive models, the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) cooler could crack internally and leak. If this happens, you may notice the following symptoms: a warning symbol in the instrument cluster displaying a loss of coolant, reduced engine power, an unpleasant exhaust odour, an unusual noise from the engine and/or smoke from the engine compartment.

Why it matters

A cracked EGR cooler could create the risk of an engine fire.

What the dealer will do

BMW will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect and, if necessary, replace the EGR module and the intake manifold with updated parts.

Transport Canada lists: 3 2019–2020 · 5 2018–2020 · 6 2018–2020 · 7 2019–2020 · and 7 more

What is wrong

On certain vehicles, the rearview camera does not return to the default settings when it turns on. This could make the rearview image difficult to see if a driver had previously adjusted the camera display brightness at or near the lowest setting, and contrast at or near the highest setting. Canadian regulations require that the rearview display returns to the default view each time the camera is turned on.

Why it matters

Reduced rear visibility could increase the risk of a crash.

What the dealer will do

The company will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their vehicle to a dealer to update the software for the rearview camera. Drivers are recommended not to adjust the display brightness at or near the lowest setting, and contrast at or near the highest setting, until this recall is completed.

What is wrong

On certain vehicles, a crankshaft sensor error may cause the engine to stall. This would result in a loss of motive power, which could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.

What the dealer will do

Dealers will replace the crankshaft sensor. Note: This condition would result in the illumination of the check engine warning lamp and an “engine malfunction” message appearing in the instrument cluster. Note: This is an expansion of recall 2018-373.

Transport Canada recall 2018380 · manufacturer campaign F90

17 July 2018

Transport Canada lists: 5 2018

What is wrong

On certain BMW M5 models, the fuel level sensor may contact an in-tank fuel line, causing the fuel gauge to display an incorrect fuel level. This may create a situation where the vehicle could run out of fuel while the gauge still displays that there is fuel remaining. As a result, the engine could stall without warning and increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.

What the dealer will do

Dealers will secure the fuel line so that it does not contact the fuel level sensor.
