Recalls

Good news: Recall repairs are almost always free. Book with any manufacturer dealer and quote the recall number. Transport Canada’s own wording is that a manufacturer “will almost always make these repairs free of charge”, so being asked to pay for recall work is unusual and worth questioning. Since 2018 the Minister of Transport can order a company to pay for repairs so owners do not bear the cost.

Transport Canada recall 2021402 · manufacturer campaign 4190024

30 June 2021

Transport Canada lists: AMG GT 2016–2018

What is wrong

On certain vehicles, the driveshaft may detach from the transmission flange. This could cause a loss of power to the drive wheels.

Why it matters

A loss of power to the drive wheels could increase the risk of a crash.

What the dealer will do

Mercedes-Benz will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their vehicle to a dealer to inspect, and if necessary, replace the carbon-fiber driveshaft.

Transport Canada recall 2018565

15 October 2018

Transport Canada lists: AMG GT 2018

What is wrong

Certain Roadster(convertible) models may have been built with incorrect software in the airbag control unit, and may not comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 208 - Occupant Protection in Frontal Impacts. In the event of a lower speed crash, this could cause the airbag to deploy with more force than necessary, which could increase the risk of injury for an out-of-position passenger.

What the dealer will do

Dealers will update and correct the airbag control unit software.

Seats And Restraints

Transport Canada recall 2017641

19 December 2017

Transport Canada lists: AMG GT 2018

What is wrong

On certain vehicles, the seat belt may bind within the seat belt guidance loop. If the seat belt were to bind, a slack in the seat belt may develop, which in the event of a crash, may not restrain the occupant as intended, and increase the risk of injury.

What the dealer will do

Dealers will remove the spacer disc in the seat belt guidance loop and add an additional sliding component to guide the belt.

Running cost uses Ontario average prices (155 ¢/L, 14.5 ¢/kWh), which are hand-maintained estimates. These are average residential rates. A car’s charging is added on top of what your home already uses, so on a tiered, time-of-use or subsidised tariff it is billed at your top rate rather than this average — which makes the real cost higher, especially in the territories.
