Recalls

Good news: Recall repairs are almost always free. Book with any manufacturer dealer and quote the recall number. Transport Canada’s own wording is that a manufacturer “will almost always make these repairs free of charge”, so being asked to pay for recall work is unusual and worth questioning. Since 2018 the Minister of Transport can order a company to pay for repairs so owners do not bear the cost.

What is wrong

On certain vehicles equipped with an oil pan heater, over time, dust, dirt and moisture may collect at the contact point between the oil pan heater cord and the extension cord. As a result, the extension cord could overheat, which may melt the oil pan heater plug and/or block heater plug (if equipped). This could result in a fire causing property damage and/or personal injury.

What the dealer will do

Dealers will inspect and clean the oil pan heater plug and the engine block heater plug (if equipped). Heat damaged plugs will be replaced. In addition, dealers will replace the extension cord and advise owners to store the cord indoors when not in use.

What is wrong

On certain trucks, the propeller shaft may not have received adequate heat treatment during the manufacturing process. As a result, the shaft may break and fall off while the vehicle is being driven. Separation of the driveshaft would result in lost propulsion which, in conjunction with traffic and road conditions, and the driver's reactions, could increase the risk of a crash. In addition, once separated from the vehicle the driveshaft could cause vehicle damage or damage to other vehicles and property, and could potentially result in personal injury or death to bystanders.

What the dealer will do

Dealers will replace the propeller shaft.

Source: Transport Canada — Vehicle Recalls Database; NRCan — Fuel consumption ratings. Data current as of 6 August 2026. Running cost uses Ontario average prices (155 ¢/L, 14.5 ¢/kWh), which are hand-maintained estimates. These are average residential rates. A car’s charging is added on top of what your home already uses, so on a tiered, time-of-use or subsidised tariff it is billed at your top rate rather than this average — which makes the real cost higher, especially in the territories.
