The most-recalled vehicles in Canada, by model

Which models Transport Canada has issued the most recalls for, from all 17,913 recalls on record — and why the raw count is a trap.

Published 10 August 2026 · figures current to 30 July 2026

Transport Canada has 17,913 vehicle recalls on record going back to 1975. Counting them by model produces the list below — but read the warning under the table before you draw any conclusion from it.

Most recalls on record, by model

Why this list is a trap: A high count does not mean a bad vehicle. Three things drive it more than quality does: how many were sold (a high-volume model accumulates more of everything), how long it has been on sale (a nameplate running since 1975 has had fifty years to collect campaigns), and how readily a manufacturer issues a recall — some are markedly more proactive, which is a good thing that looks bad in a count like this.

The number that actually matters is whether your vehicle has an outstanding recall. Look it up — it takes ten seconds and the repair is free.

Watch your own vehicle. Look it up and we will email you the day Transport Canada issues a new recall for it.

Note: Every number in this post is read from the recall and fuel tables when the page loads, so it reflects the most recent data rather than the day it was written.
